About Us

Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life

For more than 30 years Clay and Holly Schaack have built Schaack Ranch into one of western South Dakota's respected registered Angus operations.  What began with a private treaty bull sale has grown into annual bull and female production sales, serving commercial cattlemen and seedstock producers throughtout the region.  Guided by integrity, practical cattle and commitment to continual improvement, the Schaacks have developed a breeding program focused on producing balanced, functional cattle that excel in maternal strength, structural soundness, and carcass merit. The program combines generations of proven genetics with the strategic use of artificial insemination, embryo transfer, genomic-enhanced EPD's, and DNA technology to make informed breeding decisions.  Continual investment in elite cow families ensures each generation moves the herd forward while providing genetics that add value throughout the beef industry.

Each Spring, Schaack Ranch hosts its Annual Bull Production Sale, featuring approximately 130 performance-tested Angus bulls.  The sale is scheduled for Wednesday April 21, 2027.  The Ranch also hosts its Annual Female Sale each December, offering approximately 40 elite bred heifers and donor-quality females, along with more than 500 commercial replacement heifers influenced by Schaack Ranch genetics.

Beyond the cattle operation, the Schaack family's passion for rodeo is reflected in a respected performance horse program built on proven bloodlines and accomplished stallions, including PC Frosty Calibar and Jess Vegas.  Offspring from these stallions continue to excel across multiple disciplines, from youth to professional competitions.  The next generation is already on the horizon, with young prospects by One Swift Eagle and Royal Lil Shake Em showing tremendous promise.  Today, Schaack Ranch focuses on raising and marketing quality horses though private treaty, supported by a broodmare band of proven riding and performance mares.

Clay and Holly are proud parents of two sons, Wyatt and Wynn.  Wyatt is a professional auctioneer who travels throughout the region, while his wife, Hannah, is a veterinarian. When time allows both Wyatt and Hannah join in on the daily ranching duties.   Wynn works alongside Clay and Holly on the ranch, helping carry on family commitment.  Away from the ranch, Wynn is accomplished rodeo competitor.  Clay and Holly enjoy watching the legacy continue with their family and grandchildren.
